NW leads CSA on voter registration─── PULANE CHOANE 09:53 Sat, 26 Jan 2019
The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has revealed that North West has over 1.6 million registered voters, which is the province with the most registered voters in Central South Africa.
The age group with the most registered voters are the 20 to 29-year-olds.
Trailing behind North West is the Free State, which has 1.4 million registered voters, also with its biggest registered age group falling in the region of 20 to 29-year-olds.
The Northern Cape, which has the lowest population among the three provinces, lagged behind in numbers, but showed a different trend in terms of the age group that had the highest number of voters.
The Northern Cape has over 600 000 registered voters as of information provided by the IEC today and interestingly, unlike with the North West and the Free State, where the most registered voters fell in the age group of 20 to 29- year-olds, the Northern Cape’s age group with the most registered voters were those between the ages of 30 and 39.
One similarity the province has with North West as well as the Free State, however, is that like the two, it also has more women registered to vote than men.
Voting stations across the country are open 08:00-17:00 Saturday and Sunday for a final voter registration drive.
