The incident occurred shortly after the children who attend the school arrived at the St Matthews Preschool. According to a grandfather of one of the pupils, there are many speculations at this stage as to what caused the fire but details are still very sketchy. He explained that there is nothing left of the building, only a skeleton, and the pupils lost all their belongings which were inside the building.

The principal, Sharon Lock, told OFM News she was alone with the children and, fortunately, at the time of the incident, there was nobody inside the building. She further said that the preschool learners will now attend class in a hall that is on the premises.
