WATCH: Good Samaritan clears road after protests─── PULANE CHOANE 08:04 Tue, 05 Feb 2019
While housing and service delivery issues are valid reasons to protest, one man in the Phase 6 community says barricading roads with burning rocks and tyres is not the way to do it.
Local resident, Tebogo Mpoya, says he wishes those taking to the roads with rocks will realise it is not the way to do it because motorists suffer more than local authorities do. OFM News' Pulane Choane reports that Mpoya took it upon himself to clear the road rubble following protest action in the area earlier this morning.
Mpoya was hard at work, removing tyres, ash and rocks from the road on Tuesday morning as motorists found ways to manoeuvre around the road rubble caused by angry protestors earlier this morning. He says a full day of work still awaits him as he will later this morning also be reporting for work at a factory in Bloemfontein. While he admits clearing the rubble may have tired him a bit, he says the fact that he did good for others, will give him the fuel he needs to push through the day.
Mpoya was on the R702 road that links Bloemfontein to Dewetsdorp following protests by members of the Phase 6 community over site allocations in the area.
