FS #ANC rubbishes claims by disgruntled members ahead of court appearance | News Article

The ANC in the Free State says it is ready to defend the legitimacy of its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) once again before the courts.

This, as they are expected to re-appear before the Free State High Court on Thursday after a group of disgruntled members dragged it to court over an elective conference that was held last year in May. The group demands that the PEC be disbanded on grounds that it was elected in contravention of a court order that instructed that Branch General Meetings (BGMs) be rerun in 14 branches before a new leadership was elected. The group has stated that the BGMs leading to the May conference, which saw MEC Sam Mashinini rise to the position of a chairman, William Bulwane as his deputy, Paseka Nompondo as Secretary, Mamiki Qabathe as his deputy and Free State Premier as Treasurer, were not rerun, thus making the entire structure unlawful.

The party’s spokesperson in the province, Thabo Meeko, told OFM News that although they are being dragged to court, they are still of the view that ANC matters should be resolved out of court, and that the party is still calling for unity amongst all its members. He further rubbishes claims that the party is using all sorts of tactics to have the case postponed in an attempt not to have it heard.

He adds the ANCvsANC case in the province is being dragged by members not in support of democratic processes, and that claims that the party is responsible for dragging the case is a smear campaign. His statement comes after reports that the law firm representing the provincial leadership will today withdraw from the case on grounds that they have not been paid.
