Tyres were set alight outside the principal's office and police were on hand to monitor the scene.

ANC Youth League Francis Baard task team co-ordinator, Sandiseni Sithole, said the students were now calling for the Minister of Higher Education, Naledi Pandor, to intervene.

He added that they wanted the council dissolved as they were not serving the interests of the students and also wanted the principal, Brian Madalane, to be removed.

Madalane earlier this week stated that he had met with students to resolve their grievances where he indicated that classes were continuing "as normal".
