#SONA2019 was nothing but a ‘State of No Action’ | News Article

Members of Parliament have criticised the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Cyril Ramaphosa with a number of opposition parties drawing attention to the poor state of the country and what they view as the president’s lack of action.

The leader of the DA, Mmusi Maimane, says President Cyril Ramahosa’s State of the Nation Address was nothing but a political speech that reflected a ‘State of No Action’. During the debate of the SONA, Maimane accused Ramaphosa of having been laid back all these years and watched the country become a cash cow for the power hungry. He said Ramaphosa has thus far not done much to grow the economy of the country, create jobs nor deal with members of his cabinet that are implicated in state capture.

Maimane says the country needs leaders who are going to prioritise its people and not self-serving leaders. He told the House that the ANC is full of politicians who are only thinking of themselves and not the people they are supposed to serve. He further took his argument as far as to paint a bleak picture of the current state of State-Owned Enterprise by drawing more attention to the crisis faced by Eskom amidst the ongoing load-shedding.

EFF leader, Julius Malema, also put his weight on the number of cabinet members implicated in corruption and said Ramaphosa’s renewed actions to fight off corruption will remain a pep talk until he deals with ministers such as Nomvula Mokonyane.

Malema has challenged Ramaphosa to reduce the number of Ministers and Deputy Ministers. He says some departments do not need deputy ministers and challenged him to merge some departments.

Ramaphosa is expected to deliver his response on Thursday after two days have been set aside for MPs to critique his speech and put their suggestions forward.
