SACP vow not to campaign for #ANCFS until demands are met | News Article

The ANC's tripartite alliance partners in the Free State have expressed their dissatisfaction with the expulsion of 16 ANC councillors in the Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality.

Speaking ahead of the May 8 elections, the SACP has vowed not to vote for the party nor campaign for it if the expelled councillors are not re-instated as soon as possible. The group was expelled from Council after they were found guilty of voting with opposition parties during the election of the new executive mayor, Gillbert Mokotso. The SACP's Free State second deputy secretary, Mojalefa Simango, says they remain opposed to the ANC's decision to throw its members out in the cold whilst officials allegedly involved in corruption activities remain in their positions.

Addressing the multitude gathered in Welkom in support of the on-going Cosatu national strike, Simango, announced that they will not support any decision which leaves the workers and the poor at the end of the stick.  He says it is the people on the ground who always bear the brunt of decisions made by people occupying seats of power and they will not act in favour of a party that subject its people to poor conditions.

The alliance partner has also stated that it rejects the Free State ANC’s provincial list on the grounds that the list has names of those implicated in corrupt activities. The SACP's provincial spokesperson, Phillip Kgayago, previously told OFM News that should the implicated members be deployed to legislature and parliament to represent that province, they will take an action against that.

Meanwhile, Simango's statement on the situation on Maluti-A-Phofung in QwaQwa comes just a day before the expelled group is expected to appear before the Free State High Court.

The group is challenging their expulsion.
