#StudentSafety of great concern to CUT─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 10:56 Thu, 14 Feb 2019
The Central University of Technology (CUT) has expanded so much over the past years and are now concerned about student safety while crossing the various roads leading to the CUT.
The vice chancellor of the CUT, Henk de Jager, told media present at the MOU signing ceremony with the Mangaung Metro, that they believe certain roads should be closed off to CUT members only, as students cross these roads in their thousands and road safety is a great concern at the moment.
De Jager compared President Brand Street with a ticking time bomb, as motorists are not mindful of the students and accelerate when approaching the crossing. He further said the safety of students off-campus is a great concern for the university at the moment. He asked for the executive mayor, Olly Mlamleli, to help the university to ensure students are safe in the metro.
This comes just days after another UFS student's lifeless body was found in Willows in Bloemfontein. The Central University of Technology and the Mangaung Metro Municipality will later this morning be embarking on a walkabout to President Brand street to assess how the safety of the students of CUT can be improved.
