#SOPA2019: FS youth must partake in the Agricultural sector | News Article

The Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, has urged the youth in the province to partake in agricultural programmes.

She says the province aims to create about 52 000 job opportunities and is certain a number of them will come from the agricultural sector.

Addressing the multitudes gathered at the University of the Free State's South Campus for her State of the Province Address, Ntombela sent her gratitude to farmers in the province for contributing to food security in the province and appealed to them to engage the government where the need arises.

She further announced that R13.5 million has been allocated to the Free State to fund drought relief projects. She said this amount has been allocated by the national Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to the province and they are pleased that it will make a big difference to the challenges faced by farmers in the province.

Ntombela said these funds will be used for drilling and developing 45 boreholes amongst other needs in the province.

She has appealed to the provincial MEC for Agriculture, Benny Malakoane to respond to the needs of upcoming farmers in the province and said she will continue to work on the government's relations with local farmers, to assist the government to generate revenue and help with food security.

Following the mass meeting she had with farmers last week in Bultfontein, Ntombela has announced that she aims to make the Free State the province that empowers its farmers and help the youth to become active in the agricultural sector.
