#SOPA2019: Ntombela assures residents #BloemfonteinCeltic will remain in FS | News Article

Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, has assured the people of the Free State that the provincial government will assist Bloemfontein Celtic to stay in the province.

The Bloemfontein-based club has for the past year made headlines over its financial crisis with many of its supporters staging protests outside the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium when the club has a home match.

The club, known for its strong supporters, last week once again made waves when a potential buyer, Sinki Leshabane, announced that the team is in a deeper financial crisis than it was almost a year ago. The team now has a price tag of R100 million as compared to the R40 million it cost last year due to operating expenses and the debt it has accumulated. During the State of the Province Address (SOPA) earlier today, Ntombela announced that they are doing everything in their power to at least ensure that the team stays in the province. She further took the platform to announce that there will soon be refurbishments at the Charles Mopeli Stadium located in Phuthaditjhaba.

The stadium currently has a capacity of 35 000 and is mostly used by the PSL club, Free State Stars, and the National First Division club, African Warriors.

She says they are looking into investing in sporting infrastructure and ensuring that other provincial teams also reach greater heights.
