Psychiatric services restored at NW's Witrand Hospital─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:21 Tue, 26 Feb 2019
The North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, is soon expected to give a progress report on the state of Witrand Psychiatric Hospital in Potchefstroom.
This, after he appointed a task team to investigate concerns raised by employees at this health facility. Workers at this hospital last week protested against poor working conditions and what they referred to as intimidation of employees by senior management. Amongst their list of demands was the removal of the hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The protests by employees saw the facility being shut down and health services in the area affected. Sambatha has in a statement revealed that the hospital is rendering a critical service to vulnerable members of society and cannot afford disruption of health services.
Following the appointment of the task team this past Friday, Sambatha committed to continuing engagement with the management of the hospital to find amicable solutions to the plight raised by workers. Meanwhile, the department says the protest action has been called off and employees have returned to work.
