The fight for patients that often takes place between emergency medical services and private medical services at accident scenes could soon be a thing of the past.

This is according to the Manager of the Free State Department of Health’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Reuben Ruiters, who said that paramedics engaging in these kinds of squabbles could soon find themselves under fire for fighting at accident scenes.

While Ruiters denies that these incidents have taken place in the Free State, he warns that those who find themselves in these situations will face heavy consequences.

Ruiters was speaking at the accident simulation exercise in Bloemfontein, where they staged an accident alongside the N1 road near the Windmill casino so that all stakeholders involved in accidents - from paramedics, police, the fire department and pathologists - could be evaluated in their response times as well as how they will respond to real-life situations.
