#Koffiefontein councillor rejected for affiliation with former mayor─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:56 Tue, 05 Mar 2019
Koffiefontein residents in the Free State opposed the nomination of one of the local councillors to the position of Letsemeng mayor because of his alleged affiliation to the former embattled mayor.
This as residents accused Abram Lebaka of ward 3 in Petrusburg of being a puppet and part of the administration of the former embattled mayor, Thandiwe Reachable. Residents accused Reachable of being corrupt.
Ward 2 councillor, Pascal Mlozana, from Jacobsdal, tells OFM News that council had actually voted for Lebaka and there was an uproar from irate residents who objected to his nomination. He says this forced members of the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Provincial Working Committee (PWC) to ask for a brief adjournment to further deliberate on the objection raised by residents.
He adds that after the break both ANC structures nominated the councillor, Sello Bahumi, of ward 6 in Petrusburg to become the new mayor, which residents agreed to.
OFM News previously reported that angry residents are adamant that they will stop at nothing to ensure that all of their demands are adhered to appropriately. This as Reachable officially resigned during a community meeting on Monday after an intervention by her political party, the ANC.
Resident and community leader, Monaheng Khomojong, told OFM News that there are still important outstanding issues, such as the alleged fraud and corruption and appalling service delivery by the municipality.
