The age and identity of the young girl must still be confirmed, but she is believed to be about ten years old. Community members have told the media that she had been missing from home since Monday, 4 March. Local police are on the field next to the informal settlement and the body is yet to be removed by authorities. 

OFM News’ Olebogeng Motse spoke to Leabua Tjemolane who discovered the gruesome scene along with a group of friends around midday.

Tjemolane tells the media present that he and his group of friends were making their way back from a local egg farm when they saw the little girl’s decomposing body. He says they ran to the local police station in Kopanong to alert the authorities of what they had seen. The situation is understandably very tense. The family of the young girl arrived at the field not too long after the media and viewed the body. 

An angry community member yelled at people standing around out of frustration urging those who know what happened to come forward and tell what happened.

The little girl was found dressed in her green and white school uniform and is believed to have sustained a head injury. This is yet to be confirmed by the police.
