#PrellerSquareShooting: Case resumes today | News Article
The late Louis Siemens

The murder case of slain Bloemfontein businessman, Louis Siemens, is expected to resume again Monday morning.

The state is expected to file the indictment in the city's Magistrate’s Court with the intention of transferring the case to the High Court.

Three police officers, one local businessman, a barred attorney, an Information Technology (IT) officer and a repeat offender are charged with the murder of Siemens, who was shot dead in the basement of Preller Square shopping centre on 10 May 2018.

Siemens' business associate, Stanley Bakili, is accused of ordering the hit with the help of the two policemen, Molebatsi Mogoera and Kagiso Chabane.

OFM News previously reported that Bakili, Mogoera, Chabane, Karabo Mokoena, Sizwe Mpati and Mojalefa Jali Molusi were earlier all denied bail with the Bayswater captain, Moeketsi Lesia, being the only accused in the matter to be granted bail in 2018.

In her judgment in January 2019, magistrate Marlene Marais said the defence in the matter failed to show exceptional circumstances that support the accused’s release on bail.

Marais maintained that it is, in fact, in the interest of justice that Bakili, Mogoera and Chabane be denied bail because the evidence provided by the state proves that all three men could attempt to tamper with evidence or intimidate witnesses.

The three men are each facing charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder and extortion.
