R8 million for 100 NW traffic recruits─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:00 Mon, 11 Mar 2019
The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has spent R8 million to train 100 unemployed youth.
This was revealed by MEC Mpho Motlhabane during a send-off function in Mahikeng on Sunday.
The Departmental spokesperson, Thabo Sematle, tells OFM News the recruits will study towards a Traffic Diploma in a 12-month Learnership Programme at Mpumalanga College.
OFM News previously reported that Sematle said this as issues of services and road accidents will be minimised and the programme involving 100 recruits will guarantee the visibility of traffic officers on the roads as more officers will be deployed across the province.
Sematle says all four races are represented in the bulk of the recruits from far-flung rural areas in the province.
He says the 100 recruits are all from the four districts that include Bojanala, Dr Kenneth Kaunda, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, and Ngaka Modiri Molema with at least 60% percent being women.
