#HeidedalStabbing: Second arrest in Bfn stabbing incident imminent─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 16:24 Mon, 11 Mar 2019
Police in the Free State capital of Bloemfontein say a second arrest in the murder of a 22-year-old man in Heidedal on Monday, March 11, is imminent.
Police spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi, says police know the identity of the second suspect and expect to apprehend him soon.
This comes after the body of a 22-year-old man was found lying lifeless in the Joe Solomon Primary Schoolyard with a stab wound to his right eye at 04:00 am in the morning. Later on the same day, police managed to arrest a 38-year-old man at the Pelonomi Hospital for his alleged involvement in the murder. The suspect was at the hospital getting stitched up for injuries he sustained in the incident in question. It is suspected the deceased was the victim of a robbery at the hands of the two men – including the suspect – that went awry after he fought back against his assailants.
This, however, has not been confirmed by local authorities. It is unclear when the 38-year-old suspect will make his first appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court because he is still receiving medical attention for his injuries. The spokesperson says the 22-year-old man’s body was found lying behind a pile of bricks, where construction is said to be ongoing.
Hlubi says eyewitnesses informed police the deceased was chased by two men who were driving a minibus taxi in the early hours of Monday morning. Eyewitnesses informed police the assailants followed the deceased into the schoolyard, where they proceeded to attack him.
