FS Legislature calls on MEC to account─── CATHY DLODLO 15:33 Tue, 12 Mar 2019
Members of the Free State Legislature and the Portfolio Committee of Public Accounts is going to request the Tourism, Economic Affairs and Small Business MEC, Limakatso Mahasa, to come and account for her department’s state of affairs.
This follows after MPLs expressed concern about the possibility that the cash-strapped department might have to close down some projects. The Public Accounts Committee Chairperson, Neels van Rooyen, said the department’s senior delegation could not answer some of their questions.
OFM News reported earlier that the Free State Development Corporation – that receives its budget allocation from this department – was closing down one of its flagship programmes. The Rent-a-desk programme was established to support small upcoming businesses with office space and internet connectivity, but recently received eviction notices. Van Rooyen says the committee is now going to ask Mahasa to attend a sitting.
