The funeral of the seven-year-old schoolgirl, whose battered and decomposing body was found last week in a Bloemfontein informal settlement, will take place today (Friday, March 15).

Nthabiseng “Mingy” Makhoba’s funeral service is set to start at 09:00 am at the Kagisanong Hall in the Free State capital this morning (Friday, March 15). Makhoba, a grade 2 learner at Tebello Primary School in Rocklands, was last seen in the company of a friend and fellow learner after school on Monday, March 4. Two days after she was last seen, her body was discovered by Leabua Tjemolane and a group of his friends in an open field next to the R 702 headed to Dewetsdorp. She was still dressed in her school uniform. Mingy, as she was affectionately known, resided in the Ipopeng township at the time of her death. Free State Education Department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says district officials will be attending Makhoba’s funeral today. Ndaba raised the Department’s concerns on the murder in an interview with OFM News earlier this week.

The Free State police are yet to respond to enquiries regarding Makhoba’s autopsy and the results thereof. It is believed the seven-year-old girl was raped and then murdered. Police Spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi, says authorities will only be able to confirm if she was indeed raped or not once her post-mortem results are released.
