Busy N6 route between FS and EC closed due to flooding─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:31 Sun, 24 Mar 2019
The N6 road between Rouxville in the Free State and Aliwal North in the Eastern Cape remains closed after heavy rains in the area.
The road has been closed since Saturday afternoon due to flooding. This happened after heavy rains caused the Grootdam to burst its banks and overflowed onto the road.
It remains unclear as to when the road will be opened. Police spokesperson, Yanga Ngcukana, is yet to confirm to OFM News whether there has been any accidents reported.
Meanwhile, the local Mohokare Municipality in the Free State’s Xhariep district has urged motorists to travel with caution and make use of alternative routes.
The South African Weather Service has warned that there is a chance of severe thunder storms for the central parts of the Free State for Sunday. The Weather Service’s Kevin Ingram told OFM News the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, most of the North West and the Free State can expect at least a 30% chance of thunder showers, while the central parts of the Free State can expect about a 60% chance of thunder showers for Sunday perhaps until Tuesday.
