Speaking during the ANC's briefing on governance and legislature, held over the past weekend, Mkhize announced that the governing party is taking action to ensure that individuals implicated are brought to book.

He said the state of municipalities and the money they lost through the VBS investment is amongst the issues still receiving his attention. The financially-constrained Mahikeng Local Municipality, Madibeng Local Municipality, Moretele Local Municipality and the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality are amongst some of the North West municipalities that are under investigation.

These municipalities invested over R300 million in the now-liquidated VBS Bank. He maintained there will be no bailouts to them and that his department will continue helping them with their internal financial controls and measures to generate revenue.
