NW woman arrested for dumping baby in pit toilet─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:21 Thu, 28 Mar 2019
A 41-year-old North West woman is expected to re-appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court soon for attempted murder.
This comes after a newborn baby was discovered by neighbours in a pit toilet at Jericho village, outside Brits on Sunday, 24 March 2019.
Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says according to information a neighbour allegedly heard a baby crying from a pit toilet and called members of the community to assist. She says the police and emergency services were later called to the scene and the baby, who was still alive, was taken out from the pit toilet and taken to the Brits Hospital, where he was treated.
Funani says the woman was arrested on Monday, at a clinic in Jericho. “She was taken to hospital where she was admitted under police guard. The suspect appeared, in absentia today, in the Brits Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder. She will re-appear before the same court after being discharged from the hospital” Funani concludes.
