Former embattled FS Letsemeng mayor heading to Legislature─── LUCKY NKUYANE 15:31 Wed, 03 Apr 2019
Following a series of violent protests in the small mining town of Koffiefontein that led to the resignation of former embattled Letsemeng mayor, Thandiwe Reachable, she now seems to be heading to the Free State Legislature.
This as Reachable appears on the African National Congress (ANC) provincial party list as number twenty. She resigned in March 2019 after the ANC intervened when residents on several occasions made it public that they were going to boycott the upcoming elections on 8 May 2019.
It was then when the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Provincial Working Committee (PWC) allegedly met with residents to give them feedback on a report submitted by the ANC deputy Secretary General (SG), Jessie Duarte, earlier after she also met irate residents on their demands to have Reachable and her council fired. Residents accused her of corruption, fraud and maladministration. Efforts to get a comment from the party in this matter has since been unsuccessful.
The provincial ANC spokesperson, Thabo Meeko, previously told OFM News that the party dismisses talks that the resignation of Reachable is part of electioneering. He said that the decision by the embattled Reachable to resign had nothing to do with threats made by residents to boycott the upcoming general elections on 8 May. He said the party welcomed her resignation but dispel the myth around the party’s intervention on the issues that were raised by irate residents in that area.
