Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, confirms the power utility was hit hard by the storm, which affected supply in parts of Bloemfontein.

This comes after Botshabelo residents were without electricity for over 24 hours after a transformer, serving most parts of the area, became problematic and had to be changed this week.

Mamatu says the current situation in parts of Bloemfontein is not due to transformer issues, but some of the electrical lines were adversely affected by the storm. He says the team has been working throughout to restore power to areas in the dark, but it has been challenging due to the weather, adding “the weather isn’t doing us any favours”. The power utility predicts it may take a day for the situation in the Free State capital to return to normal.
