#HoërskoolDriehoek restorations in progress─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 16:12 Tue, 09 Apr 2019
The restoration of the walkway connecting two buildings at the Driehoek Hoërskool in Vanderbijlpark is on track.
This is according to the Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi. The collapsed bridge, which claimed the lives of four learners and left scores injured at the beginning of the year, raised alarms about the school’s ageing infrastructure and the lack of safety in schools. The tragedy struck the school in the morning after learners left the assembly hall to return to their classes.
Following the incident, Lesufi announced that his department will attend to refurbishments much needed at the schools and that infrastructure maintenance in schools will be amongst some of the issues on top of his list of priorities. Yesterday, he tweeted photos of the restorations underway at the high school in Vanderbijlpark and confirmed all is on track.
