FS DA to lay criminal charges after book launch disruption | News Article

The controversial book by the investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh is continuing to generate fierce debate about fraud and corruption across the country.

This as the opposition party in the Free State, the Democratic Alliance (DA), says it is considering to lay criminal charges against two well-known councillors for allegedly disrupting the Gangster State book launch in Sandton on Tuesday.

The party claims that the two can clearly be seen in pictures which have been widely shared on social media. On Tuesday night supporters wearing ANC T-shirts turned out at the venue where the book, titled Gangster State: Unravelling Ace Magashule’s web of capture, was launched.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) made a U-turn on its earlier plans to burn Myburgh’s book.

The youth league spokesperson, Sello Peterson, told OFM News this decision was taken after it engaged with its leadership on how possibly to engage in the protest against the book without being violent or disruptive.

The DA says the thuggish act is a direct contravention of the Municipal System Act that regulates the conduct of councillors. It says according to the Act, councillors are expected to perform their duties in good faith (or with a desire to act fairly towards others), honestly, transparently, and in the best interests of the municipality.

The DA also says it will be writing to the Metsimaholo Speaker, Cllr Thabo Mabasa, to lodge a complaint about their thuggish act and ask him to take action against the councillors for bringing the council into disrepute.
