According to the provincial spokesperson for the power utility, Stefanie Janse van Rensburg, tests are being conducted on the transformer to determine the cause of the outage.

She says the estimated restoration time is still unknown.

Eskom has apologised to residents for the inconvenience and further urged consumers to treat all electrical lines, sockets and appliances as live and dangerous at all times. Meanwhile, some areas in Mangaung (Bloemfontein) have been experiencing sporadic power failures over the weekend. Centlec is yet to respond.
