UPDATE: Power to be restored in Bothaville this afternoon─── LUCKY NKUYANE 15:38 Mon, 15 Apr 2019
The power utility Eskom says efforts to try and restore the power supply in Bothaville near Kgotsong in the Free State is underway.
According to the Provincial spokesperson for the power utility, Stefanie Janse van Rensburg, the restoration of supply is underway and it is estimated to be completed by 17:00 on Monday afternoon.
She previously told OFM News that tests were being conducted on the transformer to determine the cause of the outage. She, however, says things are still unclear as to as what might have led to or caused the power outage in the early hours of this morning around 01:30 in that area. Janse van Rensburg says Eskom would apologise for the inconvenience and further urged consumers to treat all electrical lines, sockets and appliances as live and dangerous at all times.
Meanwhile, Centlec, the electricity supplier in Bloemfontein, confirmed that some parts of Mangaung were hit by planned and unplanned power outages over the weekend due to recent bad weather in the province, and maintenance that had to be done.
The entity spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, said the recent thunderstorms led to a power loss in some parts of Mangaung in Bloemfontein. He says areas such as Vista Park, Rocklands, and Olivier, amongst others, were affected by these planned and unplanned power cuts. The power was, however, restored within a period of 2 to 3 hours. This comes in the wake of a warning issued by SA Weather Services last week, about the severe thunderstorms and localised flooding over the eastern parts of North West, as well as the northern Free State.
16h10 - UPDATE: Electricity supply to Bothaville has been restored after Eskom lost supply to the town at 01:30 this morning. Eskom apologises for the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanks consumers for their patience.
