Zwane questions timing of state capture allegations

Zwane questions timing of state capture allegations | News Article

Former Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane has questioned the timing of allegations by former Mangaung Metro mayor, Thabo Manyoni, and former MEC, Mxolisi Dukwana, about being taken to meet the controversial Gupta family.

Speaking to eNCA, he asked why did the two not speak out immediately if they were taken against their will to meet the Gupta family in their home in Saxon world.

Both Zwane and former Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, have been named and linked to corruption within the province involving the Guptas at the Zondo Commission probing state capture.

Former MEC for Economic Development, Dukwana, told the commission that in an attempt to muscle in on a R140-million consultancy deal in 2011, one Gupta brother allegedly offered him a R2-million bribe in exchange for his approval of Gupta-linked businessmen being awarded the contract.

Zwane says the only reason why these allegations only surface now, after Magashule has been elected as the African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General (SG), is to try to tarnish his name and that of his party (ANC). Zwane says that allegations made by Dukwana and Manyoni that Magashule had taken them under false pretence to meet the two brothers during his tenure as the premier are simply mediocre.

Dukwana said the Guptas allegedly offered him the cash then and there, and a further R2 million a month, while Magashule was present.
