Two accidents reported in Central SA | News Article

Two accidents have already been reported in Central South Africa on Wednesday night and Thursday morning ahead of the feared carnage on roads during the Easter Weekend.

Two people were hospitalised last night after a vehicle rolled down an embankment off the N1 in the Kroonvaal area between the Free State and Gauteng. One of the occupants was critically injured. Another accident left two people injured on Thursday morning, one of them critically, following a head-on collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle on the R500 in Carletonville between North West and Gauteng. ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, tells OFM News that in both incidents critically injured patients were provided with advanced life support interventions and later transported to nearby hospitals.

Meiring says in this morning’s accident, paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 08h00 to find the bakkie and light motor vehicle on the side of the road. He says the driver of the bakkie, a man, was found walking around on the scene while the driver of the light motor vehicle, a woman in her 30s, was found trapped inside her vehicle. Rescue Services had to use specialised equipment to free the woman, an operation lasting an hour. He adds that on the N1 in the Kroonvaal area, ER24 paramedics arrived on the accident scene at 22h45 to find a vehicle lying on its side some distance into the veld where one man was found lying some distance away while a second man was found walking around on the scene. He further adds that paramedics assessed the men and found that one had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition while the second man had escaped with only minor injuries. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
