Provincial Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says the three people have been taken to the Albert Nzula Hospital in Trompsburg for medical attention.

One major accident – a three-car pileup – was reported in the province on Sunday, April 21. A truck, a mini truck and a taxi collided on the R57 between Reitz and Kestell in the Free State leaving four dead and scores injured.

Towa says the accident that happened just after the Afrikaskop turn-off left nine people with minor injuries, eight moderately injured and two with critical injuries, while four people were declared dead on the scene.

He says the critically injured had to be airlifted, with one taken to Busamed Private Hospital in Harrismith and the other transported to Manapo Hospital in QwaQwa.
