Sekhing Healthcare Centre to open on Workers’ Day─── LUCKY NKUYANE 16:36 Tue, 23 Apr 2019
Issues such as the lack of healthcare services in the Sekhing area of Taung might soon be something of the past for frustrated residents who demand that the community healthcare centre be opened promptly.
The North West Department of Health says 1 May 2019, which coincides with Workers’ Day, is being touted as the official opening ceremony of the completed multimillion-rand healthcare centre. The construction of this R130 million centre took place at a snail’s pace. The departmental spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says the department is aware and notes the uneasiness and the frustration of the residents towards what seems to be a slow process of handing over the centre. Lekgethwane says although the process seems slow, it is necessary for the proper handing over of a quality centre in order to serve the serious needs of the people in that area.
Lekgethwane says the MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, the local royal council, and the community have met to determine a suitable opening date and name for the centre. OFM News previously reported that Sambatha lambasted what he called the snail's pace at which construction of the centre was taking place after the community protested about the lack of access to health care centres in that area.
