WATCH: FS road users urged to be cautious following flooded routes | News Article

Road users in the Free State are urged to be cautious when travelling between Welkom and Bultfontein following localised floods.

It is reported that a nearby river is overflowing due to heavy downpours and that roads and nearby schools have also been affected.

It has also been reported that a dam wall in Marquard, north-east of Bloemfontein, burst yesterday and is flowing onto the road.

The Provincial Department of Police, Roads, and Transport has sent a warning to motorists to be patient and avoid routes that are flooded. OFM News has reported that most routes in the Matjhabeng region have been affected following yesterday’s rain which also saw more than 140 people in Bronville, in the city of Welkom, being moved to places of safety due to localised flooding.

The South African Weather Service's Michael Nethavhani told OFM News that more rain is expected in the central parts of the country. He said the accumulated rainfall across the Free State has thus far exceeded more than 50 millimetres, and this morning the province experienced low-level fog and poor visibility.
