ANCvsANC: Party suspicious of members taking it to court | News Article

The African National Congress (ANC) remains suspicious of what it terms as opportunistic members who seem to sabotage the party by continuously taking it to court over their grievances.

This is according to the ANC acting spokesperson, Dakota Legoete, speaking to OFM News.

His reaction follows after the South Gauteng High Court on Wednesday struck an urgent application by three Free State disgruntled party members off the roll who sought to declare the Provincial List Conference held in 2018 unconstitutional and invalid.

Legoete says it’s clear that some party members are out to derail the process and the focus of the ANC.

He, however, says the ANC welcomes the decision by the court and hopes that party members will go back to their constituencies and mobilise the community for the upcoming general election on 8 May 2019.

OFM News previously reported that the disgruntled party members who took the party to court have warned against thinking the current list might win on the upcoming general election on 8 May 2019. Speaking on behalf of the three disgruntled applicants, spokesperson Monnapula Ntamo said the ANC might end up paying the price at the polls if it ignores disputes by disgruntled members, who are challenging the party’s list of candidates to Parliament.

He said the ANC has failed on several occasions since 2018 to listen to the grievances about this controversial list. Ntamo says the party seems to be prone to make the wrong decisions and leaders are very reluctant to listen to the demands and issues of party members.

He further said that those who are on the party’s national list were not elected by their branches and as a result, they are illegitimate. There has been a string of disputes launched by ANC members over their exclusion from the party’s list of candidates to Parliament. The party has also had its hands full dealing with criticism around some of the controversial inclusions.
