Court proceedings in murder case to resume on Monday | News Article

The court proceedings in the case of a 31-year-old man accused of brutally murdering his partner in Tlaseng near Rustenburg on 27 March 2019 is expected to resume on Monday at the Bafokeng Local Magistrate’s Court in Tlhabane.

On Friday, Magistrate Andrew Mmokwa postponed Thabo Moabi's bail hearing, saying he was not feeling well.

Magistrate Mmokwa is also expected to hand down judgment on Moabi’s bail application. Local media reports the state Prosecutor, Tebogo Letlhabane, told the court that there was no water in the building, which also needed to be fumigated.

Moabi is accused of killing his girlfriend, Segametsi Molefe, in Tlaseng near Rustenburg in the North West last month.

The state is opposing Moabi’s bail application, saying Moabi's life could be in danger as the community in Tlaseng was angry with him, and also that he might interfere with evidence. The court heard that Moabi was known to be a violent person and some members of the community were scared of him. Two people had indicated to police that they might not give statements on the case if Moabi was granted bail.
