Bicycle thieves to appear in NC court─── PULANE CHOANE 11:05 Sun, 05 May 2019
Two male suspects accused of having stolen two bikes said to be worth R80 000 will appear at the Sutherland Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on Monday morning.
This is according to the police in the province, who said that the two men were arrested yesterday morning after a couple from Cape Town, who slept in Sutherland in order to participate in a cycling race from the Northern Cape town to Merweville in the Western Cape, reported that their bikes were stolen. Three police officials from the local police station then spotted the two suspects while out on patrol duty early on Saturday morning and managed to get the bicycles back to their owners just in time for them to participate in their race.
While doing their patrols, the three constables from the Sutherland Police Station noticed the two suspects with the bicycles. The suspects were stopped and quizzed on the bicycles but were reportedly unable to give the police proper explanations for the bicycles, following which they were then immediately arrested. The couple on the other hand, could hardly believe their luck when their bicycles were returned to them just in time for them to commence their 230 kilometre race yesterday morning at 08:00.
The couple thanked the three police officials for finding their valuables just in time ahead of their scheduled race, while the Sutherland Station Commander, Marius Malan, applauded his team for their quick efforts.
