#Election2019: IEC predicts low turnout due to rain─── 10:51 Wed, 08 May 2019
IEC's spokesperson in the Free State, Mmabatho Rasengane, says as things stand they might get less than 50% of voters in Mangaung and other parts of the province due to consistent rain since this morning.
Voters have slowly been making their way to various stations, but Rasengane says the number has been rather low as a result of the rain.
She says most of the stations opened on time, except in a few areas. She adds that they hope the weather would clear as the day progresses.
Rasengane says their concern is the elderly and disabled, who normally struggle to get to the polls under these circumstances.
She says unpleasant weather could be an issue affecting voters this time. She, however, urged voters to put on a brave face and make their mark.
The Weather Bureau is predicting about 70% rain in some parts of the province.
