MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mack Jack in the Northern Cape is soon expected to pronounce himself on the damning findings from a report by the Public Protector, Busiswe Mkhwebane, on the liquor board and former MEC John Block.

Jack's spokesperson, Zandisile Luphahla, tells OFM News that they only heard about Mkhwebane's findings and remedial action involving the department on social media.

This, as Mkhwebane found that the actions of former MEC for the department Block to appoint, Rudessa Stadhouer-Andrews, as CEO of the Liquor Board by Block was tantamount to maladministration and misconduct.

Her findings follows an investigation sparked by a complaint in 2015 from the  NC Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL), Boitumelo Babuseng, who alleged that the  appointment of  Stadhouer-Andrews in August 2014 was irregular.

Luphahla says be it as it may, upon receiving the report and having studied it, the MEC will be in a position to respond accordingly.

In her 42 pages long report the Public Protector says the allegations that the appointment of Stadhouer-Andrews as Liquor Board CEO by Block on 7 August 2014 was not in accordance with the relevant laws and prescripts regulating the recruitment of a CEO of the board.

Spokesperson for Mkhwebane, Oupa Segalwe, told OFM News that in remedial action to the incumbent MEC is that he must amend the regulations regarding the appointment of the CEO and submit a plan of action within 30 days.

Segalwe said Babuseng alleged that Stadhouer-Andrews’ appointment as CEO  was unlawful and improper as she did not attend the interviews for the position as part of the selection process.

He added that in the PP’s report she states that Block’s decision not to approve the candidate that was recommended by the interview panel, instead appointing Stadhouer-Andrews eight months after the interviews were held, is another part of the misconduct highlighted in the matter.
