FS ANCYL to attend Myburgh’s book discussion─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:05 Mon, 20 May 2019
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State says it will attend the book discussion of an Investigative Journalist Pieter-Loius Myburgh in its numbers on Thursday at the University of the Free State.
This after university made U-turn on its initial decision to postpone a discussion on the book about former provincial Premier Ace Magashule's alleged state capture in the province. The university said the decision to postpone the discussion on the book was taken after a risk assessment was done.
ANCYL FS spokesperson, Sello Peterson, tells OFM News that they have always wanted to engage with Myburgh on the content of his book pitting the ANC Secretary General - Magashule - at the centre of alleged massive corruption in the Free State.
The FS ANCYL has been some of the fiercest critics of the book, that was launched just weeks before the May 2019 Sixth Democratic Elections in South Africa. The youth league also previously threaded to burn the book calling it “rubbish”. It, however, changed its mind after both the national executive committee (NEC) of the party and Magashule criticised the move - and said this must not be done in the name of the party or even that of Magashule himself.
Even the leader of the EFF, Julius Malema, criticised the idea and described the plan as anti-intellectual. Malema said despite how strong the disagreement, callsto burn the book was thuggish and unacceptable. He said burning the book implied that all "capitalists" books must be burned because they do not agree with them. He added, however, in order to understand the conduct and where people come from, one needs to read these books.
