The driver who lost control of the bus that led to the deadly crash that left at least 8 people dead is said to have committed suicide following the crash this morning in Alma Road in Welkom.
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Sipho Towa, saysthe number of fatalities has increased to at least nine, with a child who just died in a Medi Clinic hospital.
OFM News earlier reported initially at least seven people had died and 40 more were transported to different hospitals in the Matjabeng area in Welkom following a bus crash in Alma road on Monday morning.
Towa, said the bus was travelling from Upington to Gauteng. He said earlier the tally gathered from the incident indicates that at least eight people were critical and 14 others sustained moderate injuries. Towa added more information is expected to surface as they are were on the scene.
