Close to 70 Orkney mineworkers stage underground sit-in over wage dispute─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 14:44 Mon, 20 May 2019
About 69 Orkney seven shaft mine-workers have staged a sit-in underground after unions reached an impasse with the North West based mine over wage related matters.
The National of Union of Mineworkers (NUM) spokesperson, Livhuwani Mammburu, alleges the company – China Africa Precious Metals (CAPM) – refused to sign off on an eight percent wage agreement that was negotiated with the workers. Mammburu is yet to comment on the current status of the sit-in, but it has been reported the labour unions are still engaging the mining company on the matter.
This is still a developing story.
