NW government ready for Mokgoro’s inauguration─── PULANE CHOANE 10:27 Mon, 27 May 2019
Preparations for the newly elected Premier of the North West, Job Mokgoro, are proceeding smoothly ahead of his inaugural address which will take place at 10:00 this morning.
This is according to Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, who told OFM News that the address will take place at the Mmabatho Convention Centre in Mahikeng and his inauguration will be presided over by Judge President Monica Leeuw.
Ngesi said the Office of the Premier has communicated the relevant traffic information with those in and around the city and motorists can expect that between 08:00 and 11:00, they will have no access to roads in the vicinity of the Convention Centre.
Mokgoro's inauguration comes just a week after the ANC in the province announced its decision to retain him as the premier following the general elections earlier this month.
Leading up to this announcement, there was confusion on whether the ruling party was going to send a female candidate or him. This as the party had earlier announced all its premier candidates in all the seven provinces it rules in, except for the North West.
Speaking on the decision to elect Mokgoro, the ANC's Secretary-General, Ace Magashule, said that the party decided on Mokgoro to be the premier as there needed to be stability in the province.
"We looked at the different proposals. There were people to be considered but those people were not on the list of the ANC and we, therefore, agreed that comrade Job Mokgoro should remain Premier of the North West so that we stabilize that province and at the right time, I think, we will then interact on that matter," Magashule said. Mokgoro was sent to the province in mid-2018 after former premier Supra Mahumapelo resigned following weeks of violent community protests over alleged corruption and service delivery.
