Roads closed due to Rouxville protests─── 15:00 Mon, 27 May 2019
The N6 road in Rouxville in the Free State has been closed for the better part of the day due to service delivery protests by the community.
Protestors have barricaded roads with burning tyres and rocks demanding jobs and service delivery. According to police spokesperson, Yanga Ngcukana, the disgruntled members began their protests in the early hours of the morning with the community saying hiring with the current application process should be scrapped and a new system should be introduced.
He says the residents say the application process is favouring others while many communities still struggle to find employment.
Ngcukana says the N6 and R26 roads are still closed and he urged motorists to use alternative roads.
Ngcukana says at this moment no damages were reported and no-one has been arrested yet.
He added that the community members are currently in a meeting with the police and municipal manager.
