NC teenager gets 12 years for killing teacher─── PULANE CHOANE 13:49 Tue, 28 May 2019
The 17-year-old Northern Cape learner who killed his Grade 7 teacher earlier this year has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The teen, who cannot be named as he remains a minor, was handed down this sentence at the Kathu High Court yesterday. This comes after he on 12 January fatally stabbed his teacher with a knife after he failed Grade 7 and accused the educator of deliberately failing him.
Earlier this year, OFM News reported that the teenager killed the teacher at his home after arriving at night and breaking the man’s windows with stones.
The Northern Cape Police’s Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said as the judge handed down the minor’s sentence, he emphasized that he hopes this sentence will send a strong message to other young people that once they commit a crime, they will have to account and be punished for these crimes. Meanwhile, Boitumelo Motsetse, who was the investigating officer on the case, said he worked tirelessly to ensure that justice would be done. He expressed his happiness with the conviction.
The Cluster Commander of John Taolo Gaetsewe, Johan Bean, applauded Motsetse for his dedication and hard work. He further complimented community members who were witnesses to this case because through their testimonies justice was finally done.
