Unemployment a huge concern for ANC - Magashule | News Article

The ANC’s Secretary-General and former Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, says addressing issues such as a lack of economic growth and high youth unemployment are amongst some of the pressing issues that the ANC is paying attention to.

Addressing the media post the party’s lekgotla, Magashule says the ANC is extremely concerned over the increasing number of unemployment. His statement comes just hours after Stats SA announced a GDP growth decline of 3.2% for the first quarter of the year. This is the worst decline since 2009. Manufacturing, mining and agriculture saw the biggest drop. Magashule says the time has come for all South African to work together to address economic issues in the country. He highlighted that unemployment is now declared a ‘national disaster’ in the country and has become one of the government’s top priority…

According to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey for the first quarter of 2019, the number of unemployment has increased to 27.6%, totalling 6.2 million unemployed people as compared to 6.1 million at the end of December 2018, with the majority being young people.

Magashule says they have noted these high stats and resolved to ensure that the number decreases from 27.6% to at least 14% in the next five years.
