Mangaung’s water woes worsen as two pipes burst | News Article

Residents in Bloemfontein’s northern and southern areas may experience no water after two major water pipes have burst.

The DA’s Caucus Leader in the region, Hardy Viviers, told OFM News that the water pipe from Maselspoort to the Hamilton reservoir is among those affected, which will severely restrict water supply to those in northern suburbs. OFM News’ inbox has been inundated with questions from concerned residents who reported that they were receiving little to no water supply. Viviers spoke to OFM News about the second pipe, which runs from the Welbedacht Dam to the Brandkop reservoir as well and says it’s likely that citizens in these areas are also currently struggling.

Meanwhile, questions have been sent to Bloem Water and Mangaung on the pipes in question. Mangaung's municipal spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, did not respond to questions sent to him when the news of the burst pipes became known. He, however, provided a statement on allegations made by the water board with regards to the metro’s debt to it.

Bloem Water spokesperson, Kido Thoabala, on the other hand, said she was unaware of the incident and requested more time to gather information on the matter of the pipes. By the time this article was published, those responses had not yet been received.
