Mangaung's burst pipes will take up to 36 hours to fix

Mangaung's burst pipes will take up to 36 hours to fix | News Article

It is expected that the two water pipes that OFM News earlier reported had burst in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality will be fixed by Thursday evening.

This is according to Bloem Water’s spokesperson, Kido Thoabala, who revealed that the two pipes burst yesterday and these are between Die Hoek and Uitkyk Reservoirs, not far from Dewetsdorp town. The Operations and Maintenance team are busy attending to the pipe burst. She further said that the affected area will be Dewetsdorp and a water tanker will be deployed there and at any other affected area, should the need arise.

The news of these pipe bursts comes as OFM News earlier reported that Bloem Water would be supplying water to the metro at 30% capacity owing to Mangaung's failure to pay a three-month water bill, despite an agreement that it would do so. Executive Mayor of the Metro, Olly Mlamleli, also earlier announced that bill payers could from next month expect to pay more their water bills after the council approved a 12% tariff hike.

Despite all these occurrences, Thoabala says the burst pipes have no link to the water reductions that Bloem Water earlier this week embarked on owing to Mangaung's failure to pay over R300 million for its water bills from January to April this year.
