Condolences pour in after fatal N8 crash | News Article
Mangaung Metro Municipality Executive Mayor Olly Mlamleli

The Executive Mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, and Free State MEC for Department of Police, Roads and Transport, Sam Mashinini, have sent their deepest condolences to the families of six people, who died on the N8, yesterday.

Two bakkies collided head-on when the driver of a bakkie lost control after a tyre burst.

Four others were also injured.

Both Mlamleli and Mashinini urge drivers who use the N8 to be extra cautious when driving on this notorious road.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst, confirmed that paramedics responded around four o'clock to reports of a collision on the N8 between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo. Five people had sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene while another person had sustained critical injuries and died later at hospital.

Mlameli added that it has not been long since she took it upon herself to call for prayers and cleansing rituals on this notorious road in a quest to end the ongoing carnage.

She says according to the Mangaung Metro, most collisions on this road are caused by drivers who exceed the speed limit and appeals to drivers to avoid high speed and be patient.

More traffic officers are expected to be deployed on this road.
