Questions are beginning to mount regarding a possible drug syndicate’s use of a well-known South African bus line after drugs worth millions were recovered in two of the company’s buses on separate occasions in just over three months.
OFM News has been informed the Hawks in the Northern Cape stopped and raided one of the company’s buses on Monday, June 24, recovering drugs worth more than R3,4 million. A bus driver and his assistant driver, as well as a passenger, have been arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs and are set to appear before the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, June 24.
The well-known bus line is yet to comment on the drug bust. Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the Hawks pulled the passenger bus over outside Upington after receiving information it was being used to transport drugs and an assortment of drugs was recovered including “dagga, tik (crystal meth) and Mandrax tablets,” says Mnisi.
Just months earlier – in March this year – drugs worth close to R2,5 million were found on a bus belonging to said company. The bus was travelling between Pretoria and Plettenberg Bay when the discovery was made at the Bloemfontein Tourism Center. The bus line is yet to respond to a detailed list of questions.
