Residents Organisation ready to tackle political parties in FS by-elections─── CATHY DLODLO 06:28 Fri, 28 Jun 2019
The South African Concerned Residents Organisation 4 Service Delivery (Sacro4sd) says it is ready to give political parties a run for their money in the highly contested Maluti-A-Phofung by-elections.
The by-elections follows after at least 16 wards have been without councillors since early last year.
The ANC in the Free State had expelled 16 councillors including the executive mayor, Gilbert Mokotso, for allegedly voting with opposition parties to force the then mayor, Vusimusi Tshabalala, to step down. Tshabalala is now serving as the ANC chief in the Free State Legislature.
Sacro4sd Secretary General, Moshe Tladi, told Ofm news that their aim is to win at least some or all of the wards. The by-elections is expected to take place in about a month’s time.
"Although we have set ourselves a target of winning two wards, our major win would be scooping all of them," says Tladi. He says residents in the Maluti-A-Phofung municipal area are familiar with the party.
"We have been present in the area before the previous national and provincial elections and people welcomed us positively," says Tladi. He says his party promises 100% free electricity to unemployed people and elders and jobs to the youth.
"We're going to ensure that the youth participate in everything happening in the municipality," he concluded.
